Choosing THE color can be so difficult!
For example. Take this beautiful dresser. It has been fighting me from the very beginning of the project.
You can read all about the prep drama in my previous post.
Spoiler, it was a total jerk.
It made me mad, but I’m a forgiving sort of gal.
I freaking love this dresser. The size, the amount of drawers and the to die for curves. I knew I had to create something fabulous and over the top because it is clearly a drama queen!
I went straight for the drawers. They 100% needed to be the focal point. Especially with those sassy curves. Sexy curves? Na, sexy doesn’t sound right. Sassy it is!
Now, picture my brain working overtime. 😖
I came across these gorgeous floral napkins in a local shop. I decided to use the method called decoupage. Basically, it means gluing the napkins down to create a decorative surface. Glue and pray!
Surprisingly, it went well. I was expecting it to be a glue-apocalypse but it wasn’t. Don’t get me wrong, it was beyond messy but I didn’t die. Win!
The color conundrum.
Over the last 3 days I have had 4 different colors on this dresser.
- Antique white.
- Medium grey.
- Soft white.
I even considered blush.
Not one made me have the ‘YES’ moment. They were all, just ok. Blah!!
Every color I attempted made the cream on the napkins read yellow. Anyone who knows me, knows that I despise yellow. What to do, what to do.
Do I hear angel’s singing?
Why yes I do! After painting what felt like a bazillion different colors, my brain finally clicked.
It needed to be black. The black killed the yellow tone that every other color seemed to pull out. Now they read a soft cream. It is now classic. Every other color gave it the country vibe. And country is very much not me. At all. Every bone in my body is gothic, whimsical and fairytale.
